The Morning Call has an interesting story on Senator Arlen Specter. Senator Specter, regarded as a moderate, will prove to be a critically important voice in this upcoming political cycle, particularly with his own reelection bid coming up in 2009. Specter's importance is enhanced because the Democrats are so close to a 60-seat majority in the Senate (1 or 2 seats shy, depending on how the Minnesota recount works).

Locally, Northampton Community College is now offering classes on solar panel installation. The classes come on the heels of NCC being awarding a $15,000 grant from PPL and the Sustainable Energy Fund. And, of course, congrats to the Liberty Hurricanes, Pennsylvania's AAAA state champtions!

Nationally, gas prices rose slightly after 86 straight days of dropping. However, as a Morning Call story notes, this can sometimes hurt small, independently owned gas stations.

Business Matters, hosted by Tony Iannelli today will air a very timely show with the latest information on the real estate market. The show will air today (Monday, 12/15), 7:30pm on WFMZ.
