Hi everyone,
I found this story available on the Wall Street Journal. It discusses the challenges facing non-profits in this difficult economic climate. The summary: the recession is limiting the ability of the wealthy, corporations and foundations to donate to non-profits, and over 100,000 could shutter as a result. The story deals primarily with one charity and their struggles, but the message here is clear - non-profits are also ins serious danger, and the Madoff scandal created an extra burden for them.

I spent most of the fourth quarter talking about this same concern. The creation of an umbrella corporation that provided back of the house services to the smaller non-profits would provide an alternative to closing shop, because they can not afford a finance director, HR manager, development officers, marketing and IT.
