Daily Briefing, 1/27/2010

Good morning everyone!  Here is today's Daily Briefing.

Hector Nemes has resigned as the Director of the Bethlehem Parking Authority, apparently under pressure from Mayor John Callahan.  In Allentown, Mayor Ed Pawlowski has signed an ordinance officially giving health benefits to same-sex couples.

The Pennsylvania House of Representatives had an exceptionally contentious meeting of the Rules Committee yesterday, resulting in changes that Democrats charge will make it more difficult for them to amend and introduce legislation.

CNNMoney runs an interesting story on the dangers currently facing state workers, noting that tens of thousands are facing job losses.  The federal deficit is widening, with a new report noting that the 2011 deficit should reach $1.5 trillion.

We have three Chamber events today (all of which are still on at the moment): a LeBEAM luncheon on Building A Sales Culture, an Allentown Chamber of Commerce Luncheon featuring the Allentown School District Superintendent, Dr. Gerald Zahorchak, and a mixer at Allentown Symphony Hall with the Lehigh Valley Easy Pages.

Update, 6:50am:  The Dr. Zahorchak event has been cancelled.
Update, 8:00am:  The Todd Cohen/LeBEAM event has been postponed.

That's it for now - be safe out there, and we'll see you later!
