Daily Briefing, 8/19/2011

Good morning everyone!  Here is today's Daily Briefing!

In Allentown, after a year of controversy, Dr. Gerald Zahorchak resigned as superintendent of the Allentown School District.  Also in Allentown, the Allentown Commercial & Industrial Redevelopment Authority has taken out a $35 million loan to purchase properties for the planned hockey arena.  In Northampton County, County Council unanimously voted to hire Premier Healthcare Resources to manage Gracedale.  In Bethlehem, the Sands will be restarting construction on its events center, with plans to open the facility in the Spring.  City planners also voted to reject the construction of a planned detox and psychiatric hospital on Center Street.

In state-wide news, gas production in Pennsylvania is up 60% in the first half of 2011.  The official website of the Pennsylvania redistricting commission is now live.

That's it for now!  Have a good one and we'll be back later today.
