Daily Briefing, 1/12/2011

Good morning everyone!  Here is today's Daily Briefing.

The Easton Area School District is looking at a $7.6 million deficit this year.  The Bethlehem Area School District will likely see taxes rise 4%.  Also in Bethlehem, the city is letting ArtsQuest pay its 2011 bill late as a result of ArtsQuests' financial difficulties.  State Representative Joseph Emrick announced yesterday that he will run for reelection.  In Lehigh County, County Commissioners may proceed with reassessment, despite a request from the County Executive not to do so.

In state-wide news, Republican State Senator John Rafferty has dropped out of the Attorney General's race,  leaving Cumberland County DA Dave Freed as the only GOP candidate.

In national news, foreclosures are at their lowest rate since 2007.  Natural gas is at its lowest price in a decade.

We have one Chamber event today: a free mixer at Chianti's Restaurant.

That's it for now!  Have a good one, and we'll be back later.
