Phil Mitman announced his resignation from the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation yesterday, effective April 30. North Whitehall Township formally hired Jeff Bartlett as the Township's first ever manager. Jim Smith, a lawyer from Berks County, announced his candidacy for State Representative in the 134th Legislative District. That seat was formally held by Doug Reichley. In school board news, the East Penn School District's and Whitehall-Coplay School District's preliminary budget calls for a 3.2% tax increase, while the Nazareth Area School District calls for a 2% hike. In the Bethlehem Area School District, the tax hike is 4%.
President Obama will deliver his State of the Union address today. The four Republican candidates remaining for President debated yesterday in Florida. Senator Mark Kirk (R-IL) suffered a stroke yesterday.
