Why the Lehigh Valley Rotational Internship Program works!

Why the Lehigh Valley Rotational Internship Program works!

Internships… they are not a new concept  to business but The Lehigh Valley Workforce Investment Board, B.Braun Medical Inc. and the Lehigh Career & Technical Institute have taken “Rotational Internships” to a whole new level!

Business and industry leaders gathered at the Lehigh Valley Diversified Manufacturing Industry Partnership meeting at B.Braun Medical Inc. in May to discuss their success with engaging high school students in manufacturing internships.

In 2012, the LV Manufacturing Rotational Internship started with seven students. Four Lehigh Valley employers coordinated with the Lehigh Career & Technical Institute to enroll Electro-Mechanical students.  The success of the program lead to four students being immediately employed, two students attending college and one student employed and attending college.

Now the program has more than doubled to fifteen students who recently participated with seven Lehigh Valley employers and three local technical and educational institutes. The programs have expanded to machine and material handling programs with more to come.

The success of any great program is its impact on the people. This inter-generational program has allowed the younger generation to engage in industry while encouraging mature workers to share their experience and mentor the future workforce of manufacturing.

A big thank you to employers like B.Braun, Nestle, Swagelok, Lehigh Valley Plastics, Techo-Bloc, Atas International and Lutron for offering job training and professional career experience to our Lehigh Valley students.
